Okapuka Day Trip and Game Drive from Windhoek
N$ 2,500 PER PERSON
Route: Windhoek, Okapuka Safari Lodge, Windhoek
Okapuka is 30 km north of Windhoek, about half an hour from the city centre, and it is the shortest drive in Namibia that ends with rhino. The reserve runs to roughly 7,300 hectares of savannah under camel thorn trees, with mountains on the horizon.
The name comes from Herero and means small animal. The reserve is better known for the large ones. White rhino are the draw, and giraffe, ostrich, warthog and several antelope species live alongside them.
How the day runs
| Morning | Pick up in Windhoek and a half hour drive north on the B1. |
| Game drive | Out onto the reserve in an open vehicle with a guide who works the ground every day and knows where the rhino have been feeding. |
| Midday | Back at the lodge. There is a restaurant, a bar, a curio shop and two pools, so you can make an afternoon of it. |
| Afternoon | A second drive is possible if you want one, and the late afternoon light is better for photographs than the middle of the day. |
| Evening | Half an hour back to Windhoek. |
This is the usual shape of the day. Exact timings are set with you when you book, and we will work around a flight if you have one.
